Survey and Deck Assessment

Every flat roofing job starts with an assessment of the existing deck — the plywood or OSB boarding beneath the current covering. If the deck is sound, we can overlay with GRP directly, reducing cost and disruption. If the deck has delaminated or rotted (common on coastal BN43 properties where moisture has been tracking under the felt for years), we strip back to the joists and relay new deck before applying GRP. GRP Application in Shoreham-by-Sea

On Shoreham Beach properties, we use enhanced marine-specification GRP with increased fibreglass matting thickness and a UV-stabilised gel coat rated for direct coastal exposure. Upstands are set at 200mm minimum and all perimeter trim is mechanically fixed and bonded rather than adhesive-only. The Beach properties on Coast Road and Ferry Road are among the most exposed installations we carry out — we treat them accordingly.

Drainage and Upstands

Correct drainage fall is as important as the membrane itself. A GRP flat roof with inadequate fall will pond water — and standing water eventually finds its way through any system. We set a minimum 1:80 fall on all Shoreham-by-Sea flat roofs and specify upstands of at least 150mm at all perimeter and abutment edges. On coastal BN43 properties, we increase upstand height to 200mm where direct spray exposure is a factor.
